In the words of Chris Farley, “I swear I’ve seen a lot of stuff in my life, but that…was…AWESOME!”

For 91 minutes in Pretoria, it seemed as if the gods had it out for the U.S.- the “offsides” goal, Dempsey’s crossbar, Altidore and Donovan’s co-miss from two yards away, the countless missed opportunities. It just felt like it wasn’t meant to be, which made the end result that much more satisfying. From a fan’s perspective, those group games literally could not have been any more exciting or satisfying. What makes it even better is that by winning the group we face Ghana and either Korea or Uruguay instead of Germany and Argentina or Mexico. The stage is set for this team to do something special. But, no matter what happens beyond this point, Landon Donovan and the rest of our boys have left an indelible mark on this World Cup with a goal that brought the best brand of Shock and Awe from Cape Town to Cape Cod, from Pretoria to Peoria. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go firebomb S’ghetti Eddie’s so that I don’t have to work on Saturday.
